for secretary of defense. but now a lot of eyes are on senator john mccain. senator mccain joined the filibuster thursday as a way, they say, for him to try and squeeze more information out of the administration about the attack in benghazi. senator mccain has also said he believed hagel does deserve an up or down vote. what will happen next and is hagel in danger or will his nomination survive? susan estridge is a fox news contributor. hi, susan. >> hey, eric, how are you? >> good, what do you think will happen in the end? do you think hagel will squeak through and eventually be confirmed? >> yeah, i think there is no doubt about it. no secretary of defense has ever gotten the thumbs down this way. as a matter of fact, i can't think of any cabinet secretary cabinet appointee in history who hasn't gotten an up or down vote. so i think john mccain himself has said he'll get an up or down vote. when he does, he'll be confirmed. >> eric: it seems as days go on, could that snowball? you got all these comments he made in the past, talking about the jewish lobby, saying the iranian regime is legitimat

the the the stadium or the wood. they will see folks on tv sitting forward and hunched over and john mccain had horrible body language, one of the reasons he lost. he always looked like he was either on the attack or about to get a tax and there was no in-between and part of that was because of his injury and part of that is sort of coo john mccain is as a human being. we need to work on image, it matters. my last is about tv, the left understand this, they understand it standards and understand what people see is what they believe. this is what the left when the divorce your reason we would never lose an election. as it is it is astonishing to me we are with elections as bad as this stuff is as we are at this stuff. those are kind of the ten points. to recap quickly frame your opponent, frame the debate, such up all the philosophical inconsistencies with your opponent's positions and exploit them. force them to defend the point they say they defend. because there's not a leftist alive in government who is going to tell you the truth about what they really believe. dianne feinstein doesn't want

with chuck hagel. >> i want to play something that senator john mccain said on fox news thursday and get your take on the other side. take a listen. >> there's a lot of ill will towards senator hagel because when he was a republican, he attacked president bush mercilessly, he was very anti-his own party and people. people don't forget that. >> and that, my friend, is exactly what you just said, general, speaks exactly to what you just said. what kind of relationship will he have with congress once he's confirmed. >> well he's going to represent the national security interest of the united states up there so i think the question is really what kind of relationship does congress have with him? these men and women in the united states senate, in the congress, need to respect chuck hagel and they need to work with him and that's their obligation as elected representatives of the american people, just like it's his obligation to work with them. he'll do the best he can. he'll be straightforward. he'll be honest. maybe there will be some lingering resentments, but there shouldn't be. >> john allen,
